Hi! I am Baleigh. I am 28 years old at the time of founding the Literacy Hive in August of 2026. I graduated from University of North Florida in Spring of 2020 with my Bachelors in Elementary Education. I immediately began teaching and noticed a lack of literacy support for teachers within the schools which turned into a lack of literacy support for students. I then decided to pursue my Masters in Reading and Advanced Literature which I completed at University of North Florida in the winter of 2024. I have continued to teach since.
So why start the Literacy Hive? I absolutely love reading, and love watching students fall in love with reading. I hate teaching it though. Why? Because, I am given what feels like 40 different curriculums to teach one subject.... reading. So I created the Literacy Hive to encompass all strands of the reading rope in one place. But more than that, so that no teacher feels like they have to dig through a ton of curriculum pieces just to find the right thing to use to support their students.
I want to create a one stop shop for teachers of both general education and special needs students that encompasses all subjects and aspects of teaching. This includes curriculum, creating, printing and laminating, as well as tutoring and so much more.
Caring for kids isn't just what Baleigh does. It's who her family has been for generations. Her mother and grandmother ran home daycares. Her grandmother, Granny Sandra, has been taking care of children for as long as she can remember, opening her home to nieces, nephews, and grandchildren throughout the years. Out of seven siblings, only three of her mom's brothers and sisters didn't take care of children in some professional way. It's in the blood.
Baleigh's uncle ran a nonprofit children's home, taking in kids who needed more than most people could give. He taught them, fed them, and loved them like his own. At his funeral, the line to say goodbye stretched out the door for three hours until they had to cut it off. Cards arrived from Israel. Years later, kids who once stole her mama's car and pushed every boundary came back to say thank you and I'm sorry. That's the impact that lasts.
Baleigh has lived this work herself. She has loved foster children as her own, navigated the heartbreak of letting them go, and seen firsthand what it means to show up for a child when nobody else will. The Literacy Hive is her version of that legacy, built in her own way, on her own terms. Smaller scale. Real support. Room to breathe. A place where kids don't just learn to read and grow, they feel like they belong.
READ. GROW. CONNECT. That's not just a tagline. It's the whole point.
